1. Are you certified?
Yes, I am a Certified Cosmetic Tattoo artist by the American Academy of Micropigmentation as well as a Scalp Micropigmentation Technique Artist and Instructor.
2. What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Non- Surgical. Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of cosmetic tattooing. This procedure replicates the appearance of tiny hair follicles by depositing pigment on the skin giving the illusion of a fresh shapeup hairstyle on a bald head or density to a thinning hair.
3. Will hair grow?
No, this procedure does not make hair grow as it is pigment that we use to create this realistic technique.
4.Can this be done on beard?
Yes, It can.
5. Can this be done to cover scars from hair transplant or any other injury on the scalp?
Yes, it can, and this process is known as Scar camouflage using the same technique.
6. Do I have to shave my head?
Not necessarily. This is the client’s preference based on what they are trying to achieve. If client is looking to keep their hair, this is considered a Density work.
7. Does it hurt?
We get mix reviews on pain. Everyone has a different level of sensitivity so topical anesthetics are applied before and during the treatment to alleviate any sensation or discomfort. Some clients naturally feel sorer than others.
Music is usually played during the procedure, however, feel free to bring your own earphones and music to distract you.
6. Is it safe?
Absolutely. All supplies are disposable and every corner in the room is clean and disinfect before and after every client.
7. Will I be swollen or Redness?
You won't be swollen; you just might have slightly redness. Redness disappears between 1 or 2 days.
8. Will I need a touch up?
Most likely. Within a week of your first treatment the color will fade significantly and over the next two-four weeks can continue to fade as much as 50%. This is considered an extremely positive occurrence as it allows you time to reflect on your color retention. After this period your follow-up appointment is carried out. At this point any changes you would like to make are discussed.
9. How often do I need a touch up?
In order to keep your scalp tattoo results looking fresh, touch ups will be required between 1 to 5 years depending on your skin type, lifestyle and after care.
10. How long does it last?
It will last as long as it is maintained. How long SMP lasts will vary on your skin type by how well your skin takes in pigment during the session and how dark you are willing to go depending on scenario. After a touch up, SMP is expected to last from 1 to 5 years depending on the shade of choice you prefer, skin retention, time in the sun and daily skin routines (more exfoliating products, faster the fade).
11. How long does it take?
Each session takes between 2-5 hours (Average)
12. Do I need to take a day off from work?
Time off from work is not necessarily as there is no down time for this procedure. Normal redness will subside within 24hrs.
13. How long does it take to heal?
Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to 14 days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens. Then, the pigment takes some time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before I consider the process complete.
14. What’s the process like?
Scalp tattoo is a process, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up between 6 to 10 weeks after.
After taking the before photo, I will draw the hairline design in pencil, so you get an idea of shape. Once we have agreed on a final shape, I will proceed to start the procedure.
During healing it's normal to experience some pigment loss; therefore, we have the touch up in place.
15. What can’t I do after the procedure?
You are advised to keep the skin clean and dry - that means no swimming, sweating or otherwise getting the area wet; no tanning or prolonged sun exposure; no picking, peeling, scratching or rubbing the tattoo, this may result in a loss of color and scarring.
16. How do I extend the life of the procedure?
Your SMP will last longer if you apply moisturizer cream and sun block often.
17. How will you choose my color?
We go off based on your skin tone and your natural hair color.
18. Can you guarantee your work?
Unfortunately, I can't. How the skin will react is different for everyone and many factors are to be taken into consideration. Skin type, age, scarring, diet, stress levels, facial products used, etc. all play a key role in your results, which is why it is important to know that more than one touch up may be required.
I always make sure that your procedure it’s important to me and I will act in accordance with my experience and expertise to give you my absolute best. But there are no guarantees in this industry. Please think long and hard before you decide to go for it.
19. What if I don’t like it?
Although Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure is semi-permanent, the procedure does allow flexibility for color or shape change to some extent. However, I will work closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed technique. I will allow you to have as much control over the procedure as possible, so there’s very little room for error. If you do not like the decision you made, the Touch Up can be cancelled and the pigmented area naturally fades over time. If you aren’t 100% sure you would benefit from this procedure, please opt for a more temporary option.
Scalp Micropigmentation normally require multiple application sessions. To achieve the best results, you will be required to return for at least one control procedure six to ten weeks after the initial application.
Be prepared for the color intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. This process can take up to 14 days.
DO NOT take Aspirin, Fish Oil, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen unless medically necessary, 72 hrs prior to your procedure. Tylenol is fine.
DO NOT work out 24 hrs prior to your procedure.
AVOID sun and tanning one week prior to your procedure.
Discontinue Glycolics, Retin-A or Retinol products 4 weeks before the scheduled appointment.
DO NOT use AHA skincare products close to the enhancement area 2 weeks prior to and after your procedure.
If you've had any cosmetic surgical procedures done on the scalp area, please wait TWO MONTHS to fully heal prior to the procedure.
DO NOT consume any alcohol beverages 24 HOURS before the scheduled appointment. This will prevent any excess bleeding, oozing, and minimizes swelling during the procedure.
If there are any open wounds, pimples, bruises, or any other skin irritations on the area; please wait for them to be completely healed before attending the scheduled appointment.
Please contact immediately if rescheduling is necessary due to this matter.
For the first couple of days, the scalp area will appear dark and very defined before the scabbing phase. The thickness will subside gradually as the days go by.
You may notice whiteness or blanching around the area, this is quite normal and will subside within 12 hours. If you find any lymphatic fluid or blood weeping you can gently clean the area with cool boiled water and gauze, blotting gently dry to remove any moisture.
Redness, swelling, and stinging is normal and should subside by the following day completely. If the area feels unbearable for certain individuals who have low pain tolerance, please use a clean ice pack for comfort.
You will go through three healing phases: 1-heal, 2-peel and 3-fade.
Once the area starts to peel, it will appear flaky and unappealing. The area may feel a bit dry. Do not pick or pull at the treated area as it will result in pigment loss.
Once all scabs have fully fallen off completely and naturally, healed results should appear 10-30% lighter in color and 10-15% smaller in size from the initial. Consider using a waterproof total sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the color fading.
***NOTE:
Everyone heals and accepts the pigment differently. We provide the same service for every client but retention is dependent on your skin and lifestyle.
When you leave the office your scalp tattoos is intact. That is the job of the technician.
There ARE NO GUARANTEES made as to how your body will heal them.
If they fade, blur or not take good, that is the result of YOUR skin, your lifestyle and not a result of the technique or the technician.
NO one knows how the client’s skin will heal. This is a potential risk all clients take when consenting to this procedure.
Cosmetic tattooing is an art, NOT a science. Client’s results will vary.
We have no control over your bodies healing process and each time a procedure is done, the pigment will have less retention due to scar tissue.
If you are out in the sun a lot, have oily skin, use anti-aging creams, retinA/retinol products, acidic cleansers, natural elements, regular chemical peels, or exercise frequently, your scalp micropigmentation WILL fade prematurely.
The better you take care of the treated area and follow the provided aftercare, the longer it will last.
